Brussels-born artist Stéphan Demoortel (1966) started out with charcoal drawing at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Uccle, but quickly found his own way into painting. Curious and self-taught, he experimented with watercolor, oils, and acrylics, and even created murals, painted furniture, and decorative panels through his connections in the antiques world.
These days, watercolor is his true love. What makes his work stand out are his recurring muses: cats. But they’re not just cats — they wander through whimsical, dreamlike settings, somewhere between poetry and fantasy. His paintings feel like little doors into a quiet, magical world where imagination takes over.
